Lake Lanao

Counted as one of the 15 ancient lakes in the world, the second largest lake in the Philippines, and the largest in Mindanao, Lake Lanao has a surface area of 340km² formed during the collapse of a large volcano and the tectonic-volcanic damming of a basin between two mountain ranges. It serves as a reservoir of hydroelectric power on the Agus River which generates 70% electricity to the people of Mindanao.
Some of the animals that are endemic to the lake are the wide species of fishes and other invertebrates, wild pigs, deer cervus mariannus, and other small mammals. It supports a major fishery and other activities like boating, swimming, and sport fishing to name a few. Several towns and villages living near the lake are benefiting from the offers of food and other livelihood.
