Tourists now have more ways to fly between the Philippines and Malaysia, with two airlines offering new direct flights to and from Kuala Lumpur beginning this month.
AirPhilExpress, which flies out of Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 in Manila, will soon fly to Kuala Lumpur on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays at 7:40 p.m. Return flights from Kuala Lumpur Low Cost Carrier Terminal are at 11:55 p.m. The airline is currently offering one-way promo tickets at P3,298.
Earlier this month, AirAsia Philippines also began flying to Kuala Lumpur from the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport in Clark, Pampanga. It currently offers flights to Kuala Lumpur "starting from" around P1,580. Air Asia flies to Kuala Lumpur two times a day, the Department of Foreign Affairs said.
"The entry of these two airlines creates more opportunities for Filipinos and Malaysians to visit each other's country and discover the beauty and richness of the other’s tourism destinations, cuisine, culture, shopping and the innate hospitality of our two peoples," J. Eduardo Malaya, Philippine Ambassador to Malaysia, said in a press statement.
AirPhilExpress and AirAsia Philippines bring the number of airlines flying between the Philippines and Malaysia to five. Cebu Pacific flies to Kuala Lumpur, as do Jet Star Asia and Malaysia Airlines.
“For the Philippines, it is another avenue for our Malaysian neighbors and friends to discover why, as our tourism slogan would say, ‘it’s more fun in the Philippines’,” Malaya said.
According to the DFA, 80,000 Malaysian tourists came to the Philippines in 2010. In contrast, 486, 790 Filipino tourists visited Malaysia that year.
